What happened before Charlie's safe was robbed.

Charlie suffered severe trauma to his brain followed by years of massive amounts of medication and electroconvulsive (electroshock) therapy which without a doubt altered his memory and reduced his mental capacity overall. Because of this, the executors of his will refused to allow him to make changes which would take money away from one of the executors and give it to past acquaintances, but then suddenly the executors felt Charlie was rational enough to remove Joe, a family member who had helped and cared for Charlie at great sacrifice and had been included in his will for years, to be completely removed, giving his inheritance to the executors.
